How to Use the Integrated EZ Split Key Cup

Point-of-care drug testing gives medical professionals the opportunity to make accurate assessments within minutes without the need for a clinical laboratory. One of the best devices to use for quick POC testing is the Integrated E-Z Split Key Cup. Here’s how it works.

No one enjoys drug testing.

The person being tested, the person doing the testing… it’s an unpleasant experience beginning to end for everyone involved. It’s potentially messy, it’s time intensive, and there are myriad ways to cheat the test.

It can also waste precious minutes. In an emergency situation, there may not be time to send away a urine sample to a lab and wait for results.

And while no product can totally take those hinderances away, the integrated EZ Split Key Cup sure makes a good effort.

By eliminating screener contact with urine, testing for common adulterants, and testing for up to 12 substances, this little device is changing the way drug testing is done.

What Makes the Integrated EZ Split Key Cup Different?

The designers of the EZ Split Key Cup have addressed the three major components of drug testing issues to ensure an accurate, tamper-proof test.

What are the biggest issues with modern urine drug tests?

Firstly, there’s no way to screen for multiple drugs at the point of contact without a large setup and multiple dip tests. For a comprehensive screen, samples have to be sent away.

Second, they’re slow. And while someone doing a standard pre-employment screen may have the time to wait for a test to come back, someone in a life-threatening emergency may not.

Third, they’re messy. You’re pouring urine from one receptacle to another; multiple times if you need extra tests. Even if you’re a pro, no one looks forward to handling other people’s urine.

And fourth, they’re fairly easy to defraud. Drug users have myriad ways to try and “cheat” a drug test, and while they may return an invalid result, many drug tests simply aren’t testing for common adulterants. This can leave the screener in the lurch. Did the subject add something to their urine? Or was the equipment just acting up today?

Let’s take a look at how the Integrated EZ Split Key Cup remedies these issues.

Test for More

The EZ Split Key Cup can test for as many as 12 substances at once. Rather than using multiple dip tests, the Split Key Cup utilizes a testing label that reads results straight from the collection container, all in one test.

The EZ Split Key Cup can test for any of the following:

  • Amphetamines (AMP)
  • Barbiturates (BAR)
  • Benzodiazepines (BZO)
  • Cocaine (COC)
  • Marijuana (THC)
  • Methadone (MTD)
  • Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA)
  • Methamphetamine (M-AMP)
  • Opiates (OPI 300 OPI 2000)
  • Oxycodone (OXY)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Propoxyphene (PPX)
  • Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA)

Test More Quickly

If you have someone who needs medical attention, and you need to know what drugs they are already on before you treat them, seconds count.

The Split Key Cup allows you to test on-site, within five minutes, before you ever send a specimen to the lab for confirmation.

And while specimens should always be confirmed in a lab, the EZ Split Key Cup is proven accurate. A recent study found a 90% accuracy rating.

Test More Cleanly

In traditional drug testing, the specimen is often transferred from the collection cup to a testing cup, or among multiple cups, if multiple tests are needed.

This increases the risk of contamination or other test compromises.

It also can be messy. One joggled elbow and suddenly you’re covered in potentially contaminated urine.

The Split Key Cup eliminates this. because collection and testing are done in the same cup, once the cup is closed, you can test, no transference needed.

Eliminate Test Tampering

As long as there are drug tests, there are going to people trying to cheat the tests.

And while there are certain things that can’t be tested for (fake penis, anyone?), the more common adulterants can.

One of the most common ways of cheating a drug test is to add substances to the urine just after the sample is collected. People have been known to add bleach, vinegar, eye drops, dish soap, and even drain cleaners to their urine in an effort to “clean” it.

The EZ Split Key Cup has a test right on the container to ensure that the urine sample hasn’t been contaminated with any foreign substance. This means you can save everyone’s time by marking a sample invalid before sending it off to a lab.

How To Use the Integrated EZ Split Key Cup

Now that we know WHY we’re using the Split Key Cup, let’s get into the “how”.

Prepping for Collection

Before removing the cup from its protective pouch, ensure that the pouch has been brought to room temperature.

Remove the key from the center of the lid, and ensure that the key stays with the technician, as it is necessary for testing.

Open the lid at the hinge.

Specimen Collection

Allow the subject to give their specimen.

The test should be at least 1/3 full for proper testing and accuracy.

Once the specimen is collected, press down on the cap until an audible click is heard.

The technician should date the label and initial the label, check the lid for a tight seal and attach the security label at this point.

Initiating the Test

The begin the test, place the cup on a flat surface, insert the key in the side slot, in a fully closed position. Peel off the label cover. The test will then begin on its own.

Do not shake or jostle the cup while the test is processing.

Reading the Results

You are looking for two results. First, adulteration.

If a test is compromised by any additives, the test will read as such between 3 and 5 minutes. If the test shows a compromised specimen, you should discard the test before reading the results, as they are invalid.

If the test is unadulterated, specimen results can be read at five minutes

Each test will have a control line and a test line.

A control line simply means the test is working.

A test line means the test is negtaive.

Think the opposite of a pregnancy test.

1 line = positive

2 lines = negtaive

0 lines or a test line with no control line = invalid
